Once you've made a new Topicscape you will have a single topic or node with the name the same as the Topicscape itself.

Click on that topic and drag away the green dot that appears. When you release it you will be able to type in the name of a new topic and select whether it will be a child, parent or loose associate of the first one.

You can make several topics at once by typing all the names and separating them with pipe marks "|". On many keyboards this is Shift+\.

As you plan your study project, breaking down topics into sub-topics and so on, you'll build a structure that you will later (or now if you like) be able to add notes, files and web pages to, as a reference for learning, commenting on and discussing.

The number of levels in the 3D mindmap is unlimited and you can move up and down the topic tree as you think, research and add information.

Loose associations allow you to gather ideas and information that do not have a strict hierarchical relationship, but that you feel will be useful if connected. These appear as tunnels on the topics.

And remember that a topic can appear under as many other topics as you need - 3D mindmapping does not have the limitations of a strict hierarchy that 2D mindmap software often imposes.
